Renowned dancer Swapnasundari is also an
accomplished singer gifted with a melodious voice.
She received training in vocal music initially from
her maternal grand-mother Smt.C.Sundaramma and later
from her mother Smt.Vakkalanka Sarala.
Smt.Vakkalanka Sarala was an outstanding
music-director & a great singer. Sarala herself had
been schooled in Carnatic music from the late
Sri.Voleti Venkateswarulu and Sri Kalakkad Ramanatha
Iyer & Hindusthani music from from Pandit.Marathe of
Gandharva Vidyalaya,Pune. She ensured that her
daughter Swapnasundari imbibed the finer nuances of
music early in life.
From
childhood, Swapna participated actively in her
mother's musical ventures. Sarala fostered
Swapnasundari's development as a singer-dancer and
composed music for her daughter's innumerable
dance-songs and ballets on varied themes.
Swapna's CDs & cassettes of
songs for Kuchipudi dance (Music Today) are
extremely popular. Her impeccable rendering of songs
in nine Indian languages in her album “Janmabhoomi
Meri Pyari” (HMV Saregama) has drawn critical
acclaim.
